Cultural Competency for Health Professionals

Presented by:

  • Katisha Vance, MD – Program Director, Content Developer, & Lecturer

  • Mark HaLi, DHSc – Co-Lecturer & Founding Architect of Health Partnership Modeling

Course Description

This accredited continuing education course empowers clinicians and health professionals to deepen their understanding of cultural factors that influence patient experiences, health outcomes, and care delivery. Grounded in real-world scenarios and evidence-based frameworks, the course explores the impact of historical trauma, systemic inequities, and cultural beliefs on patient engagementβ€”particularly within Black and African American communities.

Co-developed and led by Dr. Katisha Vance, a seasoned medical educator and advocate, and Dr. Mark HaLi, a leading population health scientist and creator of Health Partnership Modeling, this course is both intellectually rigorous and deeply human-centered.

Participants will leave with actionable strategies for:

  • Building cultural humility into daily practice

  • Addressing medical mistrust and communication barriers

  • Applying inclusive approaches across therapeutic areas

  • Elevating care through context-aware decision-making

Whether you’re a physician, nurse practitioner, researcher, or allied health provider, this course will expand your capacity to deliver equitable, respectful, and culturally competent care.
